Securing the future with solar
On January 13, 2026, the Becquerel Institute, in partnership with ODE Vlaanderen and EDORA, will host the fifth edition of Belgian Solar Day at BEL Brussels. As the largest event in Belgium dedicated to photovoltaics, this year’s theme, "Securing the future with solar," will dive deep into the critical intersection of energy security and solar technology.
Why Attend?
This unifying event brings together the entire solar ecosystem, including policymakers, investors, researchers, and developers.
This year, all sessions will be held in English to welcome our international partners.
What’s on the Agenda?
Our comprehensive program is designed to address the most pressing challenges in the industry today. Björn Crul will host the conferences.
Inaugural Address: The event begins with welcome words from Cécile Neven, Minister for Energy, Air Quality, Climate, Housing, and Airports.

Markets and Investment Outlook: Gain essential insights into the solar market at every level—from global trends presented by Gaëtan Masson (Becquerel Institute) to regional focuses on Wallonia, Brussels, and Flanders led by experts from EDORA and ODE.
Innovation vs. Global Competition: This session will explore whether the Net-Zero Industry Act will reshape supply chains. Christoph Podewils from ESMC will give a presentation on this topic. The session also covers building robust local ecosystems with Jef Poortmans from IMEC and anticipating the surge in PV recycling with Johan Goossens from PV CYCLE Belgium.
The afternoon session will be open with a presentation by Prof. Adel El Gammal

Building Resilient Grids and Technologies:
- Part 1: Focuses on flexibility products to tackle grid challenges, as well as critical discussions on cybersecurity and protecting the sector against geopolitical tensions and blackouts. Presentations will be given by Kris Poncelet from ELIA and Bram Verckens from FPS Economy.
- Part 2: Features a collaborative session on investing in future-proof infrastructure, bringing together major grid operators like Fluvius, ORES, RESA, and Sibelga to discuss the integration of solar and storage
To conclude the day, we are honoured to welcome Bart Martens, Policy Advisor Energy and Climate at the Flemish Minister's Cabinet.

Networking
In addition to the conferences, participants will have the opportunity to network during the lunch cocktail reception and also talk with the event's partner companies.
